Subject: RNAO - Action Alert Now is Exactly the Time to Act on Poverty
in Ontario [REF5360003441003693724]

Action Alert: Now is Exactly the Time to Act on Poverty in Ontario

September 24, 2008

Background:

Over the summer of 2008, individual and groups of Ontarians were
actively involved in community meetings with their MPPs and in providing
written submissions to the government of Ontario urging action on a
comprehensive poverty reduction strategy for the province. Recent media
accounts such as the Toronto Star article below suggest that "with the
downturn in the economy, Premier Dalton McGuinty has signaled he may not
be doing as much as originally planned." As an organization and as a
coalition partner in the 25 in 5 Network for Poverty Reduction, RNAO is
convinced that tough economic times make it even more urgent that the
provincial government should act now to reduce poverty in Ontario.
