National Economic Forum on Early Childhood Investment:
The Annual Conference of the Partnership for America's Economic Success

July 9 (reception and dinner) - July 10 (all day), 2008

U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 1615 H Street NW, Washington, DC 20062

Please join the Partnership for America's Economic Success for our fourth national conference. We will release new data on the economic returns of proven investments in young children and showcase business leadership in making children an economic priority. There is no registration fee and everyone is welcome, but space is limited (and previous events have filled up). Online registration <http://www.partnershipforsuccess.org/register.php?eid=19> is now available.

Request for Proposals for Workshop Sessions!

The conference will also feature hands-on workshops to help local business leaders and advocates learn how to work together to advance the message that children's healthy development is essential to the nation's fiscal future. We encourage you to recommend topics and speakers for the workshops. If selected, PAES will provide up to $600 per person to cover speakers' travel costs to the conference.

Proposed workshop topics include:

*	Working with local affiliates of national business organizations
*	Effective communication strategies to use the economic message
*	Supporting governors to use the economic data to champion investments in children
*	Collaborating with the health care industry
*	Innovative financing methods to fund early childhood programs

In addition to the proposed workshops, we invite you to nominate different session topics and up to two speakers per topic. We are looking for sessions that explore aspects of winning investments in children based on their importance for local, state and national economic success. The one-hour workshops will be held twice, from 2:00 - 4:15 pm on July 10th.

To recommend an individual for one of the proposed workshops or for a new session, send an email with (1) your full contact information, (2) short bios of the speakers, and (3) a description of the workshop or session topic, including how the speakers are using the economic message to advance investments in young children, to: Hollis Calhoun, [log in to unmask] We would appreciate receiving your proposal by April 11, 2008.

There is no cost to register <http://www.partnershipforsuccess.org/register.php?eid=19> for this conference. We look forward to seeing you there.

PAES has released new research <http://www.partnershipforsuccess.org/index.php?id=07> on the economic benefits of raising families out of poverty, and investing in early childhood programs.

The Partnership for America's Economic Success and the Milken Institute recently co-hosted the West Coast Economic Forum on Early Childhood Investment <http://www.partnershipforsuccess.org/index.php?id=24> . The forum convened business, finance, policy, and advocacy leaders to consider strategies for building the human capital necessary to support a 21st century workforce by investing in the nation's youngest children.

Subject: Return on Investments related to the SDOH

Hi All:

I am working on a policy paper re. SDOH (with special reference to healthy child development).

Is there any information that you are aware of (health or other sectors) that documents the outcomes (preferably health) return on investment preferably in quantitative terms ?

Eg; longitudinal studies - preferably documenting defined outcomes - costs, and benefits related to specific policy interventions or combinations thereof related to one or more of the following:

1. Healthy Child Development;
2. Child/Family Poverty Reduction (and/or subsets thereof )
3. Changing the education gradient;
4. Affordable food housing, etc. ?

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions or leads that you may be able to provide.

Cheers,

Reg Warren

	Introduction
	People with mental illness often live in chronic poverty. Conversely, poverty can be a significant risk factor for poor physical and mental health. The relationship between poverty and mental illness is both straightforward and complex in its pervasive reach. Understanding this broader context is key to addressing poverty in order to promote mental health and support the recovery of persons with mental illness.,,
