Recent evidence shows that exposure to poor income, poor education, poor
jobs, and poor neighborhoods over life also accumulates higher levels of
markers of inflammation (associated with increased risk of heart
disease)---suggesting that there may be a specific physiological
mechanism (or set of mechanisms) that links deprivation to heart
disease.
