You might be interested to know that Mike Heasman's and my book on the
global battles over food and health is just published here in the UK, and
also by the publisher James & James / Earthscan in the USA.

The book tries to contribute to the social determinants of health
literature by analysing tensions within food policy over:

- the spread of 'western' diet-related diseases to the developing world
which lacks infrastructure to cope;
- concentration of market share and control within the food economy;
- different notions of quality and environmental protection;
- the struggle to dominate consumers while responding to them (the battle
to determine food culture);
- how systems of governance are out-of-date, largely framed at local or
national level and without adequate regional or international systems.
