Dear colleagues,

The Centre for Urban Health Initiatives (CUHI) at the University of Toronto
invites applications for a Post Doctoral Fellowship in the area of urban
health research.

The Position will be available from December 1, 2005.  The Post-doctoral
fellow will collaborate with faculty from the Centre for Urban Health
Initiatives in developing a research program for the fellowship and will
receive mentoring about research opportunities, publications and career
development.

Opportunities exist for applicants working either within one of CUHI's
three research interest groups or at the interface of two or more of these
groups. CUHI's research interest groups (RIGs) include Food and Health,
Physical Environments and Health, and Neighbourhoods and Health.

Directors of CUHI's research interest groups (identified below) to discuss
their interest in the post-doctoral fellowship and their proposed program
of research.

The fellowship offers a salary of $40,000 and a research allowance of up to
$5,000.  Fellowships are awarded for 1 year with possible renewal for a
second year.

A candidate must hold, or be at the final stages of completing a PhD in any
field related to urban health from an accredited university.  Candidates
with more than five years of post-Ph.D research training by the competition
deadline are not eligible to apply for this award.  Any interruption in a
candidate's post-Ph.D research training will be taken into account in
determining eligibility.

The Centre for Urban Health Initiatives and the University of Toronto are
strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcome
applications from visible minority group members, women, Aboriginal
persons, persons with disabilities, members of sexual minority groups, and
others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. All
qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and
permanent residents will be given priority.

To apply for the fellowship, candidates should send:
. a 2- 3 page letter identifying their background and training, career
goals, areas of research interest and research skills and the relevance to
CUHI's research interest areas, and personal goals and expected outcomes
for the post-doctoral fellowship.  This letter must address the candidate's
interest in urban health issues as well as CUHI's specific topic areas.
. Project description or description of particular interest in CUHI's
research areas.
. A complete C.V.
. Include 2 reprints, manuscripts or brief sections of a doctoral
dissertation and publications that demonstrate writing ability and
analytical methods used in research.
. References - three written references, preferably from the most recent
research supervisors.  References should speak about the suitability of the
applicant for this program and in particular the relevance of the
applicant's interests in CUHI's research areas.
. Transcripts (including undergraduate work) - copies acceptable

The Centre for Urban Health Initiatives will begin assessing applications
as of October 31, 2005 and will continue until the position is filled.
Faxes of letters of recommendation are accepted at 416-946-0669, but must
be followed by hard copies.
