Andre Picard's column on the broader determinants of health (Bring on the
duelling Top-10s: Two lists not to die for, September 30, 2004) is timely
and accurate. Economic and social conditions are clearly the most
important determinants of Canadians' health. Why is it then that biomedical
and lifestyle studies and their findings are reported in the "News"
sections while this more relevant and timely research is allocated to
"Opinion" columns? Why are the findings from the studies that Mr. Picard
refers to not being presented to Globe and Mail readers on an ongoing
basis?
