A few additional SDOH references. To Annette P: thanks for your note....yes indeed, there is something to be said for action!!! Instead, here are more terms.

Globalization: an increasingly de-politicized term representing the flow of social, political and economic capital from select countries of the South, to already resource-wealthy countries of the North...only to be re-sold to countries of the South in the form of international development aid and export-free zone commerce (cheap T-shirts for everyone!).

Structural adjustment: the process whereby poorer countries (typically the product of European colonialism) are sold European culture at the expense of local culture, social sevices and national, and local development (we'll give you guns if you give us your doctors!).

Full-employment: an economic term whereby Aritotle's sound analysis of modes of human causality have effectively been counfounded to the point where labour and the spread thereof is purported as the end point of human endeavour. Who, any longer, creates?

White food: an as unyet qualified/defined form of cuisine, which stands in contrast to so-called ethnic food (a similar correlate apparently exists for ethnic communities, ethnic media and other ethnic forms of existence).

HIV: a virus for which life-long treatment exists, but by which millions of children, women and men (most notably in sub-Saharan Africa) die needlessly and preventably each year.

Malaria, tuberculosis, schistosomiasis, homelessness, hunger: a few things that many people who probably aren't reading this message are dying from right now.

AFRICA: A continent typically referred to as a country. "Bob's in Africa", "Now we shift the news to Africa", "Let's save the children in Africa."

46, 900 million, 1000+: Respectively, the approximate number of countries, people and languages that are found across continental Africa

AFRICA: A word which appears to mean nothing to anyone who does not live there.

Racism: Commonly misunderstood as cultural difference or ethnic difference, this fact of life often feels much different to people who are on the daily receiving end of its blows.

Music Video Awards (MM and MTV for example): glitzy affairs whereby the process of cultural commodification is greenhoused via the distanced, solar heat of Bronx and Brooklyn hip-hop culture.

Will and Grace: We all watch it, so we've all accepted sexual difference haven't we? We all are ready to accept our gay, lesbian, trans-gendered and other sons and daughters, aren't we? Well, I caught myself laughing alongside others last night when a gay joke was uttered during the movie I was watching..

...we all have much to learn, and I'm at the front of the school line. What are the SDOH if we don't relate them to the way we see and operate in the world.
