Please see attached the Call for Proposals for the upcoming Health Equity
and Diversity Conference (June 10-12, 2005 at OISE). Proposals are due
Thursday, March 31st, 2005.

About the conference:

The Health Equity and Diversity Conference, Toronto 2005 is a “community
summit” that focuses on health needs and issues in relation to diversity.
This unites professionals, organizations, communities and individuals to
reflect on best practices and perspectives at local, national, and
international levels. Through this reflection the conference participants
will challenge the exclusion and barriers faced by marginalized communities
in accessing the health care system to enhance local, national and global
awareness, voice and action.

The goals of the conference are:
• To highlight the impact of critical health issues on diverse communities
in Toronto with the objective of stimulating public debate, building
awareness and influencing policies and health practices.
• To identify and analyze global socio-cultural continuities and gaps and
the role of local environments in meeting the particular health challenges
of marginalized communities
• To engage in a critical review of health policies and practices to reduce
health disparities and increase access and equity for diverse communities,
at all levels, including with respect to the role and activities of the
government.
~~> To develop a Toronto People’s Charter for Health Equity and Diversity
to
address disparities within diverse marginalized communities

Presentation Formats:
We urge you to consider a wide variety of formats, different types of
participation, and to take into account the various ways people from
diverse
backgrounds engage and learn. Each session will be 1 hour and 30 minute.
This amount of time also includes the Q & A period. “Friendly Spaces” will
be available for people to “Caucus” around shared interests and concerns
