Last November I attended/presented at the UBC's conference: 'Where the 
Patients Voice in Health Professional Education ?' which I think would 
be an excellent forum for your group. There were a number of patient 
representatives from underserved areas such as aboriginal, mental 
health. I personally include ovarian cancer women in this group as well, 
something unfortunately which most people outside of our particular 
community fail to appreciate (slight editorial commentary). For some 
reason certain cancer populations are not 'seen' as underserved which I 
find rather odd.
They did have some funding available last year and there was an 
expressed need to increase the funding. This would improve the 
attendance ratio between HCP/Researcher:Patient. Next year's conference 
is in the UK, as I understand it but I don't know that it has been 
widely publicized as yet. The website which you might follow is:
