Hello again,

What exactly is your concern about this model?

My use of this model was regarding the position that was posted regarding moving information between communities and universities. The importance was that of the middle-person had to be very talented at being able to take the community concerns (because the communities know what they need best) and bring these issues to researchers in a way so they (the researchers) believe it is necessary to do research on the issue at hand. This is of course dependent on research dollars (if the cash is not there, they will not do it) so this middle-person may even need to have an excellent grip on research funding initiatives in order to get the $ to even make it a go. THEN.... the middle-person has to be able to take the research "gobble-de-gook" language from the "egg-head" researchers and have it understandable in layperson language (which I am not implying is less important from a human standards point of view) without losing the language of the research itself. This information would then be taken by the communities (with the help of the middle person and other community workers) and turned into something useable for themselves.

I myself have found it very challenging working in public health to be able to take available information and make it accessible for the community. After my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, it was very hard to take the knowledge I acquired and give it to the mom who wanted to get fit since her kids were all gone from home and she finally had the time to do it.
I think when people who have finished university start to work in the "real world" they need to remember that the average reading level of the population is approximately grade 6.
