How do we combine the knowledge and wisdom in communities and in academic
institutions to solve the major health, social and economic challenges
facing our society? How do we ensure that community-driven social change
is central to service-learning and community-based participatory
research?
Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH) is convening our 10th
anniversary conference, April 11-14, 2007 in Toronto, to nurture a
growing network of community-campus partnerships that are striving to
achieve the systems and policy changes needed to address the root causes
of health, social and economic inequalities. The conference seeks to
build knowledge, skills and actions for achieving healthy and just
societies.
We invite you to share your knowledge, experience and lessons learned
with hundreds of colleagues who - like you - are passionate about the
power of partnerships to transform communities and academe.
The conference planning committee is looking for proposals that address
one or more of these sub-themes:
*Understanding and Addressing the Social Determinants of Health
*From Grassroots Movements to Policy Change
*Communities as Centers of Learning, Discovery and Engagement
*Developing the Science of Community-Based or Practice-Based Evidence
There will also be a session track on Aboriginal and Indigenous Health and a
session track specifically designed by and for students.
Proposals are sought for these session formats:
*Pre-conference intensive workshops
*Skill-building workshops
*Story sessions
*Challenges consultation sessions
*Film screening and discussion sessions
*Posters
*Thematic posters
Authors of selected proposals accepted for presentation will be invited to
prepare a paper for one of these peer-reviewed publications: Progress in
Community Health Partnerships: Research, Education, and Action
(http://pchp.press.jhu.edu); The Journal of Higher Education Outreach and
Engagement (http://www.uga.edu/jheoe/); Context: The Journal Recognizing
Student Health Professionals Engaged in Their Communities
(http://www.contextjournal.org); Gateways - International Journal of Community
Research and Engagement, published cooperatively by the Center for Urban
Research and Learning, Loyola University Chicago and UTS Shopfront, University
of Technology Sydney; or Partnership Perspectives, published by
Community-Campus Partnerships for Health. There is no guarantee of
publication, but we intend to work closely with authors and the journal editors
to ensure high quality submissions that are likely to be favorably reviewed. In
addition, Context will publish abstracts of all accepted proposals authored by
students!
