Speaking of SSHRC, is there anyone who has written about
or done research on funding trends for social/public
policy research in Canada?
In 2006 when the Conservatives announced 1 billion in cuts
including cuts affecting social/public policy research, we
did a piece identifying some of those areas:
http://www.socialplanningtoronto.org/CSPC-T%20Reports/Faces%20of%20the%20Cuts.pdf
With respect to research, they changed the terms and
conditions for the Women's Program under Status of Women
Canada, disallowing funding for research, advocacy and
lobbying. They also cut funds to the Social Development
Partnerships Program, Canadian Social Research Networks,
and Law Commission of Canada, all affecting research.
I would be grateful to hear from anyone aware of other
research on funding trends for social/policy research or
who is following these trends closely.
Thanks,
