Clearly, there are a number of factors that contribute to this somewhat
depressing result.The best account I have come across is in "What's the
Matter with Kansas" in which it is argued that by removing the economic
from the political, the Democratic Party has left "average" Americans with
nowhere to go with their resentments except to the Republican right.
