Friends of the City of Toronto Archives,
The following Red Alert appeared in Built Heritage yesterday. Please do your
part to Help.
RED ALERT-TORONTO ARCHIVES THREATENED IN BUDGET CUTS
As you all may know, the Saturday Star identified the City of Toronto
Archives as one of the programmes facing the chop if the City doesn't
get money from the Province. If you use the facility, and understand the
value of a fully-staffed, publicly-accessible archival programme please
write to some or all of the following people:
(1) Councillor David Shiner (Budget Chief) [log in to unmask]
(2) Chief Administrative Officer Shirley Hoy [log in to unmask]
(3) Commissioner Joan Anderton, Corporate Services [log in to unmask]
(4) Your own Councillor
All the above are at City Hall, 100 Queen Street West, Toronto M5R 2V2.
Given the City of Toronto Archives' fundamental role in fostering and
enabling public accountability, the future of the CTA should be deemed
indispensable to the proper operation of the City. At the moment, that
is not a "given". Obviously, their role in heritage, public education,
and a wide range of other issues is also extremely valuable and, indeed,
well known.
The budget goes to City Council next week.
