I'm writing this post in response to comments urging people to be wary of
the Greens on poverty issues and the SDOH. I'd be happy to exchange personal
emails with anyone who would like to continue the discussion.

For subscribers who don't know me, let me say that I subsist on an average
annual income from self-employment of $7,000. All members of WISE, the group
for which I am Coordinator, have incomes below Canada's Low Income Cut Offs
or LICOs. Most of us live many thousands of dollars below that line.

Anyone who has read WISE's book will be aware of our recommendations for
change. When we compared our recommendations to political party policies and
talked amongst ourselves, we discovered to our surprise that a large
majority of us favour the Green Party or Green-type approaches over the NDP
and its approaches. (Don't discount our knowledge about these; we do our
homework.)

Ironically, most of us supported the NDP previously - i.e., until our
poverty worsened. The party's message consistently rubs us the wrong way. It
comes across as patronizing, Big Brother-ish, and (hate to say it)
disrespectful. That may not be the intent, but that's the result. Our
experience has been that the NDP does a lot of talking ABOUT us, but not TO
us. Whereas, the Greens have invited us, and other grassroots no-name
marginalized groups like ours, to help build its social policy. Now that's
respectful, that's inclusive, that's walking the talk.

I'd be happy to discuss this further by private message.
