Hello to all,

Bringing you good news.

This is to inform you of the date and venue of our "1st meeting", as discussed
in my previous message.

Date: 29 June 2006 (Thursday)

Time: 6.30pm - 8.30pm

Location: Metro Hall, Room # 302
55 John Street, Toronto (Between King Str.W. & Front Str.)

This is a very important meeting for this initiative and I do hope that
all of you interested in bringing about changes, will attend. Dennis Raphael
will be bringing us news from his trip this weekend to Halifax.

No, it is not duplicating and it is not fragmenting efforts; for the simple
reason that although we have similar interests we do not have the same agendas
nor do we have time to include all agendas.
Nor should it be viewed as a competition. I also pointed out that the more
voices the more power.

On this note, may I respond to the following excerpt:

["I believe we need to think more about how we can coordinate our efforts and
come together under common banners!"
Marlene Rivier]

that, when I did request the support on the initiative regarding the Review of
the HPPA, the 1st week of May to both the Ontario Health Coalition
([log in to unmask]) and to the Toronto Health Coalition ([log in to unmask])
I never received an acknowledgement from either one, let alone support and
coordination of efforts.

I want to emphasize again, that many organizations have similar interests
and they can coordinate their efforts on campaigns, but the different agendas
will have to be focused on the issues of interest in each organization without
being perceived as a competition, conflict or fragmentation.

As an example, Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Pollution Probe, Toronto Environmental
Alliance, etc. all have very similar interests but differ in their approach,
but when all together voice a concern in campaigns, they are heard in political
circles.

I will see you all at Metro Hall!

Lela Gary
