Globe and Mail readers should be aware that Margaret Wente is just plain
wrong about licensed, regulated daycare not having beneficial effects upon
children, families, and advanced economies such as Canada's (Daycare can't
help us compete, September 24, 2005). I would simply direct them -- and
Ms. Wente -- to Gina Browne's chapter Early childhood education and health
and Martha Friendly's chapter Early childhood education and care in my 2004
book Social Determinants of Health: Canadian Perspectives which is
published by Toronto: Canadian Scholars Press.
