Please share the following information with undergraduate students who may be interested in pursuing an MA Sociology degree with a focus on health inequities:

SSHRC-funded MA Studentship
Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Simon Fraser University

Students interested in working on issues related to health inequalities in the Southern Cone countries of Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay) are invited to apply for admission to the MA program in Sociology at Simon Fraser University. A SSHRC stipend of $12,000 per year for two years is available (and, in addition, funds are available for one trip to Latin America and one national conference). Students accepted to our program would also be able to apply for SFU graduate fellowships, awards and teaching assistantships. Students would work with Dr Fernando De Maio on analysis of survey data from the Southern Cone countries. A working knowledge of Spanish is an asset, as is experience with Stata and/or SPSS, quantitative methods, and medical sociology / social epidemiology. Interested students should contact Dr De Maio ([log in to unmask]) for further information on the studentship and should also consult the department’s website (www.sfu.ca/sociology) for information on our graduate program.

Background to the project is available in the following links:
http://www.pophealthmetrics.com/content/7/1/8

The deadline for receipt of all materials regarding the application is February 1st for admission in September 2010.

Many thanks,
Fernando
