The problem with this and many other studies is that they can't begin to take into account crimes of violence against women and children, which are extremely underreported (up to 90%).

Add to this the facts that police focus their attention on low-income neighbourhoods and people of colour/immigrant communities (you'll find crime where you look for it), and that poor people are forced to live much more of their lives in public due to lack of housing and services (and therefore come into contact with police much more often).

Makes it difficult to come to any accurate conclusions I would say.
