Well said. Thank you for the way you phrased it, Catherine. I was feeling the same. Out of the ivory tower and into the messy real world of complicated humanity.

I must admit that I am a little disheartened by the response to the posting (and subsequent action) that is referred to in this post. I do not have any knowledge of the context around Mona’s posting (in fact I do not know Mona), nor do I condone the language, tone or threats that were used in her posting earlier today.

What I did gain from her posting was that she was a woman experiencing anguish in her life over a perceived or real ‘attack’ in her life. The members of this list serv work with people who have experienced vast inequities in their lives (both real and perceived). Often they depend on us to be caring and compassionate advocates to help them navigate systems that perpetuate such inequities. I think we could have done so much better than “You know who has been removed from the list..... First time since 2003”. Your 12 words have a tone that all other members are better than (Mona), creating yet another vicious cycle of humiliation, shame and stigma. There has to be a better way.

You know who has been removed from list.

First time since 2003.
