Theresa,
In Calgary we have brought in routine screening for domestic violence in Emergency Departments throughout the Calgary Health
Region.  Nurses screen women, men and older adolescents to ask if domestic violence is an issue in their lives, and if they are
safe at this time.  The question is intentionally worded in a general way to allow either victims or perpetrators of domestic
violence to seek assistance.  If a positive screen is received then hospital social work becomes involved to link to community
resources.
Also, there is an article I believe in the medical magazine "Medscape", regarding pediatricians providing information to families
on gun safety.  Hope this is helpful.   Debra Carnat,
