I think you misread what I said. Inequality is a component of the social
determinants of obesity, just not the only one.
I would suggest, for example, that changes in the way that food is produced and
distributed in the US is very important. Though these do disproportinately
affect those on a low-income these factors are external to individual income.
Better regulation of industry, the equitable provision of opportunities to buy
food, curbs on advertising and promotion of unhealthy foods are some of those
external factors of the greater 'food environment' that need to be addressed.
The same goes for physical activity and the increasing body of environmental
determinants literature shows..
