seems to me that the generation of knowledge (information plus
judgement/wisdom) occurs everywhere- just in different ways.  just as folly
(inaccuracies/foolishness).  
the discussion between communities and universities needs to value all forms
of knowledge and be jointly on the lookout for folly.  this can only occur
in considered dialogue and the testing of ideas in the real world.
 
in an information society- the issue isnt who has the information- its how
it is shared and knowledge generated as a result.
