Hi Lela,
It sounds as if you are creating some valuable and important occasions in which to try to influence, and I appreciate this.
I am in Alberta, work in pediatric health care, and am locally involved in a variety of efforts to address and advocate re poverty
issues, which despite public perception, are indeed a concern for many Albertans. I do so as I am able within and outside of my
workplace. I am likely in the near future to have less opportunity to do this through my job, which is of real concern to me. In
my current employment context, I can serve to pass on information through the groups in which I'm currently involved, and vice
versa. One of the groups with which I'm involved is that of Vibrant Communities Calgary, part of the national Vibrant Communities
Initiative supported through the Caledon Institute. One of the initiatives being worked on through VCC is that of a low income
transit pass, which is being piloted in Calgary, and which we would like to see extended beyond this year and in other areas of
the province.
I would wish to be more actively involved than I am, but between working 2-3 jobs, and parenting my own children, my time is
limited, so in regards to larger efforts that you're attempting, I can only be an informal conduit, and do pass on information as
I'm able to. I do however appreciate your efforts to inform those with influence.
                                       Sincerely,
                                                Debra Carnat,
                                                Social Work, Alberta Children's Hospital
