Lela,
I want to echo Michael and Laurel's words. Many of us have been active in
advocacy for some time. I made my pilgrimage to Jim Watson's office with
SDOH proponents in tow just after the announcement of the new ministry.

I attended that Child Poverty Action group AGM in Ottawa this evening and
last month attended an event hosted by a teachers' group on inner city child
poverty.

Many groups, many well intended and committed people!

I am not convinced that we need another group quite frankly. It seems to
fragment our effectiveness in my view. I would rather see people joining
existing groups or working to build coalitions/partnerships!

It is easy to become discouraged when you feel the urge to mobilize and
others do not seem to rally round.

I belong to the Ontario Health Coalition which took the lead on the June 3
P3 rally and Chair the local coalition in Ottawa. We are a small group and
we will be focusing on connecting with other progressive groups.

We have only so much energy and we need to avoid duplicating our efforts.
The fine distinctions between one advocacy group and another may not justify
the fragmenting of such efforts.

I believe we need to think more about how we can coordinate our efforts and
come together under common banners!
Marlene Rivier
