It is not only the province's unwillingness to confront socioeconomic issues
of low income individuals and families, it is also their outright contempt
for individuals who are anything less than middle/upper income contributing
members of society. The provincial government is targeting ODSP, special
diet subsidy, mental health for homeless/poor/disabled Ontarians, community
support services and any and all citizens who have much better things to do
then surf the Ontario government's website and/or call a toll free number to
get "advice" on eating healthy food. Now we have a healthy eating/active
living "policy" that preaches to the converted and a wonderful nuclear
energy policy that flies in the face of everything democratic and
environmentally sound. While I personally did not agree with most of the
health and social initiatives or policies forwarded by the previous Tory
government in Ontario, at least they didn't try to hide their ignorance and
contempt for the working class and vulnerable populous, this government is
determined to demonstrate to all that they don't understand the issues
facing their constituents, nor do they really give a damn about making the
province a healthier, more equitable place to live. I must admit that I
thought the idea of a Health Promotion ministry was ludicrous in the first
place, now it appears that my scepticism was dead right.
