Professor Raphael,

We met briefly when you appeared at the Senate for hearings on the social
determinants of health a few weeks back.  I thought that from your position
at York you might know some imminent or recent graduates who would be
interested in this kind of work, especially as some of the initial projects
could involve the population health study.  Please circulate if you do.

Many thanks,

Michael Toye
Analyst, Library of Parliament

Parliamentary Position for Social Policy Analyst

I am sending this email to let you know about a social policy analyst
position in the Parliamentary Information and Research Service (PIRS),
Library of Parliament.  This opportunity may be of interest to graduates in
your program, prospective graduates or other qualified people with whom you
may wish to share this email.

The social policy analyst position would involve a range of
responsibilities, working with Members of the House of Commons and Senate
to provide non-partisan services to individuals and parliamentary
committees.

In particular, analysts provide written and oral responses to questions
from individual Parliamentary clients and work with committees to plan,
research and draft relevant documents.

Work Requirements

The individual traits required for the work assignments would involve:

* Knowledge of social policy, programs and issues reflected in an M.A.
directed to general and specific social policy issues relevant to federal
Parliamentarians;
* Excellent writing and personal communication skills;
* Ability to work efficiently and effectively under time constraints and
deadline pressures;
* Personal versatility, including a willingness to work extended hours when
necessary;
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Employment Terms:  The position would involve employment to commence within
the next few months on a determinate (term) basis in the PIRS.  Term
appointments are generally for one to two years.  The annual salary for
PIRS Analysts ranges from $51,616 to $91,840, commensurate with experience.

Individuals seeking a secondment or interchange with the Library of
Parliament are encouraged to apply.

Location:  Ottawa (occasional travel)

Time-frames:  Initial Screening will commence in April 2007, as
applications are received. Interviews will be conducted as suitable
candidates are identified, with a view to completing the hiring by early
May (or sooner if possible).

Application Process: Applicants may forward resumés including university
grades and references before April 15, 2007 to Joseph Jackson, Director,
Political and Social Affairs Division, Parliamentary Information and
Research Service ([log in to unmask]).  If you have questions, please do not
hesitate to contact Joe at the above coordinates, or at 613-995-6363.
