 1. Physical Activity Forum: "Preventing Childhood Obesity: Big-Picture

 2. Physical Activity Course for Practitioners: the Centre is proud to
co-sponsor this important course presented by the Canadian Fitness and
Lifestyle Research Institute, (Sept. 29 to Oct. 2 in Banff, Alberta).
Gain essential tools to develop individual, policy and environmental
interventions. Lectures from a faculty of internationally recognized experts
are combined with discussion sessions and applied learning. Share
experiences and network with colleagues from across Canada. The 2008 program
is an exclusive professional development opportunity that you won't want to
miss!

 3. Centre's New Homepage. You'll find our key features at a glance, such as

4. The Rural Route to Active Aging website is a key source of information
about physical activity for adults (55-75) in rural communities. It offers
resources for practitioners, decision-makers, community leaders, and older
adults, to promote and build capacity for

5. Staff Changes:  we welcome, Maria Tan, as our Older Adult Assistant,
while Jennifer Dechaine is on maternity leave for one year.
 
6. The Advisory Board of the Alberta Centre for Active Living will welcome
three new members and a new chair at its next meeting on May 15. Rob Crooks,
a Calgary-based consultant will become chair following Keltie Paul of Fort
McMurray. New members joining the Board are:

*David Chorney, a professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of
Alberta who brings his knowledge of physical education, health education and
outdoor education to the Centre.

*Alison Pilsner, Program Administrator for the Be Fit for Life Centre at
Lethbridge College, who works with employee lifestyle programs, school
children, police recruits, youth initiatives and fitness programs in
southern Alberta.

*Yvonne Rempel, a Town Councillor in Grande Cache, who brings her knowledge
of rural communities, local decision-making, and promotion of active living
in northern Alberta.

*Kandi McElary of Mount Royal College in Calgary continues on the Board for
another year.

Thanks to Jennifer Copeland of the University of Lethbridge and Keltie Paul
of Northern Lights Health Region for their valuable contributions to the the
Board.

The Centre would like to thank all of the applicants who responded to the
February invitation to apply. We very much appreciate your interest in
supporting the Alberta Centre for Active Living.
