One of the great discussions in Great Influenze by Barry involved surface
learning and research vs deep learning

In the surface approaches, there is not much potential for great advances.

Diving in deep and immersion has more potential, but requires a different
approach. One must compare, compile, and set up new ways to organize and
categorize that help make sense of the apparent chaos. You can also drown.
Often I can tell you more about drowning than organizing.

Eventually you have to build a ladder to help others figure out what you
have learned and what this means.

There is tremendous potential in this area and we all are learning and
sharing and there is much more to come.
