In recent work on mental health and criminal activity, the Canadian Population Health Initiative (CPHI) has presented a range of research relevant to crime and SDOH. The following are all available free of charge from the website. The written reports are available in English and French.

•       written report: Improving the Health of Canadians: Mental Health, Delinquency and Criminal Activity presents new analyses of the latest research, surveys and policy initiatives across Canada related to mental health and criminal behaviour among youth and adults. English and French. Suite includes summary report, bibliographies and methods papers.

•       webconference (archived): recording includes overview of the report and presentations. CPHI presented findings from the report and moderated a panel of guest speakers addressed the issue of mental health and the criminal justice system in Canada. Panellists included:  Mr. Phil Upshall, Special Advisor on Stakeholder Relations with the Mental Health Commission of Canada, Nathalie Neault, Director of Investigations with the Office of the Correctional Investigator and Justice Edward (Ted) Ormston, who established Canada's first mental health court and who is the Advisory Committee Chair, Mental Health and the Law, Mental Health Commission of Canada.

•       written workshop proceedings: Mental Health, Delinquency and Criminal Activity covers a workshop highlighting research and promising practices. Workshop was attended by 55 participants comprising a varied group of academics, researchers, clinicians and representatives of community organizations, national/provincial non-governmental associations and federal-, provincial- and territorial-level governments, working in public health, mental health, mental health promotion, delinquency prevention, the justice system and mental health diversion.

•       online course: Linking Mental Health to Delinquency and Criminal Activity explores links between mental health, delinquency and criminal activity. It is based on the report, and some complementary report products. Free registration through CIHI’s learning Centre.

Is there any good information on dealing with crime from a public health perspective (prevention) that also ties in Social Determinants? I'm not even sure where to start looking.
