Thanks for your thoughts Linda.

As someone far south I say it sounds like there is a lot of organizing and movement building to be done in Canada and the US.

Sorry, Dennis - I disagree with you on this.

Harper now has four years to dismantle our existing social programs, such as they are, and to privitize health care while at the same time enacting, among other things, his crime agenda which will put thousands of people behind higher, thicker bars with no rehab programs. If you look at how deeply and broadly Mike Harris was able to reshape Ontario during his regime and how little of that has been reconstructed, I think you will see but a fraction of the damage Harper will do.

People thought when Mulroney got his majority that we would be able to reclaim the government the next time round and we see where that got us. We need to worry about the Harper regime - we need to worry a lot!! Yes, the NDP can use the four years to prepare for the next election but meanwhile the Tories will use their four years to create a Canada which will be far removed from the one we have now.

I say "Be afraid - be very afraid".

Linda.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Harper majority. If he had a minority and the NDP came in second the Liberals would have made life hell for the NDP. They would not have done anything that would allow the NDP to get any credit and that includes any form of coalition.

The NDP now has four years to consolidate their winnings and achieve the profile of "government in waiting."

I've been really disheartened by this election, and that's saying a lot for a strong NDP supporter. I should be happy, but I'm really not - not with the Harper majority. http://Fairvote.ca<http://fairvote.ca/> is the right place to start for thinking about electoral reform - though I despair that the Conservatives will stifle any discussion to this end. Every party stands to gain in a PR system except the governing party, which must contend with more voices and more dialogue. I wonder what the mechanics are of calling for a referendum on proportional representation electoral systems, because it strikes me that's where our energies need to be directed to best bring SDH to the table in a substantive way under this government.

Best,

Love it! I woke up yesterday morning in a rage. What the hell are
Canadians thinking? But as this points out it was only a small minority
who were suffering from this disease...not the majority!

I think where we need to concentrate our discussion over the next few
years is on parliamentary reform. When oh when are we going to have a
system that actually reflects the majority's wishes?

Thank you for this. I needed a laugh!

Information about Gonorrhea Lectim

The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new
virulent strain of this old disease. The disease is called Gonorrhea
Lectim. It's pronounced "Gonna re-elect 'em," and it is a terrible
disease. The disease is contracted through dangerous and high-risk
behaviour involving putting your cranium up your rectum.

Many victims contracted it in the last Federal election when they re-
relected Stephen Harper and are now starting to realize how
destructive this sickness is.
It's sad because Gonorrhea Lectim is easily cured with a new drug just
coming on the market called Votemout. It's pronounced "Vote-em-out".
You take the first dose in 2011 and don't engage in such behaviour
again; otherwise, it could become permanent and eventually wipe out
all life as we know it in Canada.

There are 34 million people and 24 million registered voters in
Canada. 5.8 million voted for Harper... to a majority government????

Oh Canada dearest, get well soon!
