There is a way that organizations with websites can help: by including such
articles as links on their websites. This will increase the articles' search
engine ranking - and bring more visitors to the host website too.
Major search engines such as Google use a number of criteria to determine
how high a web page will rank in searches. While the major criterion used to
be the matching of the 'meta' keywords/phrases in the target web page
(embedded in the page's HTML code) to the search keyword/phrase, the two
major criteria now are:
a) Textual content - Does the keyword/phrase used in the search match with
text in the linked page? How well?
b) Popularity - To how many other web pages is this page linked?
Organizations with websites can meet both criteria by linking to the
relevant articles in, say, their Links or Resources sections.
