             Director of Distance Learning and Telehealth
 
     The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio
 
       The University of Texas Health Science Center at San
  Antonio (UTHSCSA) is requesting applications for the new
  position of Director of Distance Learning and Telehealth.
  The Director will be responsible for managing the newly
  established Center for Distance Learning And Telehealth and
  will promote, coordinate, and facilitate distance learning
  and consultation services at UTHSCSA.
 
       Over 2600 predoctoral and 200 postdoctoral students are
  enrolled in  UTHSCSA's schools of Medicine, Nursing,
  Dentistry, Allied Health, and Graduate Biomedical Sciences
  and affiliated programs in Pharmacy and Public Health.
  Nearly 600 residents receive training in affiliated
  institutions. UTHSCSA also participates in education,
  research, and patient care in numerous outreach programs
  throughout South Texas, particularly in the border region
  with Mexico. The Center for Distance Learning and Telehealth
  is being established to develop and manage a state of the
  art communication's system with these outreach programs.
 
       Specific responsibilities of the Director include: 1.
  Managing state appropriations for the Center; 2.
  Facilitating acquisition of external grants for distance
  learning and telehealth; 3. Educating UTHSCSA and affiliated
  institution faculty on developments and initiatives in
  distance learning and telehealth; 4. Monitoring and
  evaluating new technological developments in distance
  learning and telehealth; 5. Preparing reports for internal
  and external agencies on the Center's activities; 6.
  Recruiting, selecting, and managing employees of the Center,
  7. Developing standards and monitoring legal and regulatory
  issues pertaining to distance learning and telehealth; and
  8. Representing UTHSCSA on joint distance learning and
  telehealth projects with other campus and external
  organizations.
 
       Qualifications include a doctoral degree or equivalent.
  The applicant should have experience with distance learning
  and telehealth systems and programs in an academic health
  center. The applicant should possess knowledge of distance
  education and telehealth technology and be able to
  conceptualize, interpret, and integrate services into the
  relevant organizational context.   The applicant should be
  able to demonstrate experience in successful project
  management and grantsmanship and possess excellent
  communication and organizational skills.
