Yet another gleaning from the Sunday paper. A very nice
write-up about Quarry Farm appears in the Travel section of
today's _Philadelphia Inquirer_. The article, by John Corr
and Marjorie Matthews Corr, is entitled, "Twain's summer
home bears his mark."
The article gives a nice overview of Twain in Elmira--from
the Langdons to Klapproth's to Thomas K. Beecher to Wood-
lawn--and mentions the scholarly resources available at
Elmira College and the Center for Mark Twain Studies. The
article is interspersed with selected Twain aphorisms, and
of course there is an attractive photo of Quarry Farm. There
is also a list of accommodations, dining, and places of
interest in the area for those Philadelphians (and budding
Twain scholars) interested in a getaway weekend.
Season's greetings,
Mary Leah Christmas
