It may be that I am somewhat overstating Dolmetsch's claim.  I'm writing
from my home computer, not my office, where my copy of his book is.
Nevertheless, I recall that Dolmetsch makes a stronger assertion about
Clemens's fluency in German than I have seen elsewhere.  Dolmetsch read
Viennese newspaper archives and other German-language accounts of the Clemens
family's nearly two years in Vienna, and has indeed used material
previously unseen by English-language scholars.
