I heard once (on the end of a tape of PW) a description by Twain of
how he came to write the book -- mostly describing how he had to
wrench a funny story (I think about Siamese twins) out of the serious
story that insisted on being told, despite all his best intentions...
Can anyone give me a reference to that description by Twain of his
own work? Any general comments on PW? Thanks Jennifer Hochschild
