American couple meets Mark Twain in Vienna!

           A HONEYMOON IN VIENNA, 1898-1899
From the Diary of Mrs. Hiester Bucher
              of Lebanon, Pennsylvania

               By Mary Leah Christmas

Thanksgiving Day, 1898: ...Was introduced to the
great Leschetitzky, "Mark Twain" (Mr. Clemmens)
     and Miss Clemmens...

A HONEYMOON IN VIENNA is the factual account of a trip to
Europe by a young doctor and his new bride. In transcribing
and annotating her great-grandmother's Vienna diary entries,
Christmas discovered not only the date of their fateful
meeting with Mark Twain, but also that the Buchers, during
their five-month residence, had places and people in common
with him.

Dr. Hiester Bucher, newly graduated from the University of
Pennsylvania, was furthering his medical studies at the
University of Vienna. The American medical community there
was close knit; and it was this closeness--and the hospi-
tality of the U.S. Ambassador--that set the scene for the
Bucher-Clemens meeting.

A HONEYMOON IN VIENNA is 98 pages, which includes an intro-
duction about Mark Twain's time in Vienna, extensive foot-
notes of historical and Twainy interest, and some original
photographs. Scholarly assistance on this project was kindly
given by an authority on Mark Twain's Vienna years. Mrs.
Christmas is a writer, an editor, and a member of the Mark
Twain Circle.

A HONEYMOON IN VIENNA is available to Mark Twain Forum
members, by check, at the reduced rate of $6.00 each
(regularly $6.95), which includes shipping and handling.
