EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND CONFERENCE PLANNER

The Alberta Public Health Association (APHA) is a leader in promoting and
protecting the health of the public through advocacy, partnerships, and
education.

The APHA is currently seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual for
the position of Executive Director and Conference Planner.  This position
reports to the APHA President and provides support to the Board and members
of the Association by:

Developing proposals and work plans based upon the identified priorities in
the APHA Leadership Plan and assisting, as appropriate, in the
implementation and evaluation of the work plans;
Fostering relationships with government, agencies and organization to
advance resolutions from the Annual General Meeting and increase the
membership and profile of the Association;
Responding to inquiries and communications related to the Association as
appropriate;
Coordinating Board meetings, activities and committees, including the
Annual General Meeting;
Coordinating and facilitating the biennial conference of the Association by
co-chairing the planning committee (comprising diverse regional partners),
administering activities, organizing meetings, providing direction for and
evaluating the event; and
Performing other duties as directed by the President.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Understands and clearly articulates public health philosophy, the concepts
of health promotion, disease/injury prevention and population health.
Has well-developed networks within the health system and with key
stakeholders outside of the health sector.
Demonstrated organizational, communication and advanced computer skills are
required.
Baccalaureate degree in health or social sciences with experience in public
health.
Can provide office space, computer and printer with current software, small
office appurtenances and storage space for files, telephone/fax line, and
Internet connection.  Has a reliable vehicle and valid Alberta drivers'
license.

Contract Position: 12 month term with annual review and potential for
extension.
Start Date: September 1, 2000 (somewhat negotiable)
Hours:  Variable.  Executive Director Position is approximately 0.5 FTE (964
hours per year); project work and conference planning can add another 0.5
FTE, depending on funding and activities.
Salary Range:  $19 - $23 per hour

Deadline for applications: Friday August 4, 2000 by 4:30 p.m.
