Lead Trainer: Maternal and Child Health Project, Yunnan Province, China

As Canadian Executing Agency for a bilateral initiative with China, 
funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, the University 
of Ottawa is seeking a dynamic health professional for a two-year 
contract position as lead trainer with the Yunnan Maternal and Child 
Health Project.  The goal of the project is to improve the quality of 
village life and to promote the development of productivity and social 
prosperity in poor ethnic minority counties in Yunnan Province.

Based in Kunming and Lijiang, you will prepare core groups of provincial 
and county trainers to design, implement and evaluate community-based 
educational programming and use participatory, experiential teaching 
methods with maternal and child health grassroots workers.

Basic requirements:
- you are a health professional with a master’s or doctoral degree and 
at least 10 years of community experience in maternal and child health
care.
- you have experience in primary health care program design and delivery 
with populations in third-world countries or in remote underserved areas.
- you have excellent leadership and administrative skills including 
curriculum design, implementation and evaluation, and are familiar with 
experiential and participatory teaching methodologies.
- you demonstrate strong English communication skills (oral and written) 
and a good working knowledge of spoken and written Mandarin Chinese.

As part of a recent restructuring, the Centre requires a Director to 
head up the new Resource Services Group combining the finance, human

This is a growth position and requires a dynamic creative leader.  The 
ideal candidate will have a university degree in a relevant field 
(ideally an MBA or similar post graduate degree), a financial 
designation (CA, CMA or CGA) and significant managerial and executive 
experience.

Bilingualism (English-French) proficiency - to at least equivalent 
federal public service level B on appointment - is mandatory.  The

Associated Medical Services, Incorporated (AMS)
William B. Spaulding - Certificate of Merit
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1996 the board of AMS approved the creation of the William B. 
Spaulding Certificate of Merit.  Up to three certificates may be awarded 
annually to physicians who assist in the development of history of 
medicine in Canada at the local level.  The award was created in honor 
of Dr. Bill Spaulding former AMS Board member, innovative medical 
educator, and avid physician-historian.

John B. Neilson Award

The John B. Neilson Award was established in 1983 by the Board of 
Directors of AMS in recognition of the many contributions made by Dr. 
John B. Neilson to the organization.  The award will recognize ongoing 
contributions to the History of Medicine by a Canadian physician whose 
primary responsibilities have been in some other area of the profession.

International Human Rights LAW GROUP

The International Human Rights Law Group (the Law Group)is a non-profit 
organization of human rights and legal professionals engaged in 
advocacy, litigation and training around the world.  The Law Group’s 
basic mission is to empower local advocates to expand the scope of human 
rights protection for men and women and to promote broad participation 
in building human rights standards at the regional, national and 
international levels.  The Law Group is affiliated with the 
International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) and maintains formal relations 
with the United Nations, UNESCO, and the Organization of African Unity.

Position: Experienced Field Officer to help launch new project in 
Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Qualifications: Candidates should have experience with the European 
human rights system and familiarity with the region.  The salary range 
is from US $35,000 to US $40,000 per annum depending upon education and 
experience.  Health benefits, round trip airfare and a generous vacation 
policy will be provided.  The Law Group will consider immediate, short-
term contracts.

Position: Human Rights Legal Officer for full time opening, 
Washington, DC.

Qualifications: Candidates must have 2-3 years experience in 
international human rights law, mature political judgement and knowledge 
of Latin American political and legal traditions, and commitment to 
capacity building and democratic development. Excellent oral/written 
skills.  Fluent Spanish and English. Dynamic personality and aiblity to 
motivate others.  Frequent travel.   Salary $38-$40,000 DOE.

Position: The Field Officer, based in Goma, Zaire to work with NGO’s in 
the East to increase effectiveness in promoting and protecting human 
rights.

Qualifications:  Eligible candidates with 2-3 years of experience in 
development, training or human rights work in the developing world, 
preferably francophone Africa.  Requires fluency in French and English 
and knowledge of Swahili or other Zairian languages is desirable.  
Experience in Zaire or a neighboring state would be a useful asset.  An 
advanced degree in law, international affairs or related field is 
preferred.

Salary for this position is $35,000-$38,000 with individual health 
insurance, vacation and home travel leave.
