Canadian Society for International Health - Spanish Course - Sept. 1997
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Canadian Society for International Health is co-ordinating an
opportunity for members to up-grade their Spanish skills, learn about
health care provision in Latin America and something of the culture in
Guatemala.

The course will be conducted with a small group of between 5 and 10
persons. The four week immersion experience will include one-on-one
language instruction for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week and accommodation
with a local family. One of the five days will be used for site visits
and meetings to acquaint participants with health and social service
provision in Guatemala. There will also be after call outings that will
provide participants with opportunities to learn about Guatemalan
culture. A pre-travel preparation package will be included as part of
the course. The course will provide upgrading for those who have had an
introduction to basic Spanish. Participants would be encouraged to
study introductory Spanish as part of their preparation for the course.

The total cost for this course would be approximately $2,500.00. This
estimate covers the costs of return trip Canada - Guatemala, the Spanish
course including accommodation with a local family, 3 days hotel stay in
Guatemala City, health insurance and local travel costs related to site
visits. Travel costs will vary according to the season and the
departure location of participants. The amount would not cover
additional travel and personal expenses while in Guatemala. We are
planning the course for 1997. Our final choice of dates will depend on
participant availability, tourist congestion and weather. Those
interested in further information or in attending this course are asked
to contact:

Société canadiene de santé international - programme d’Espagnol de
septembre 1997
------------------------------------------------------------------------
