The Mark Twain Circle seeks abstracts for a proposed panel at the 2025 South Atlantic Modern Language Association (SAMLA) conference in Atlanta (Nov. 6-8). The overall theme of the conference is the production, transmission, and transformation of “knowledge,” and here is a link to a full description of the theme: https://southatlanticmla.org/conference-theme-and-cfp/

The Mark Twain Circle requests abstracts for presentations that engage with the overall theme of the conference using the life, work, and/or legacy of Mark Twain as a focal point (or touchstone, or pivot, etc.). Authors should feel free to explore a wide array of approaches in interpreting the topic. Potential panelists may choose to focus solely on Twain, of course, but they may also choose to focus on the work of other writers or creative artists who respond to, echo, expand, and/or challenge Twain in some fashion.

Please send abstracts (250 words) or inquiries to Jeffrey Melton: [log in to unmask]
DUE: Aug. 1, 2025
