Education: A university degree in a health related profession and a
Master's degree in epidemiology or public health. An M.D. or a postgraduate

Experience at national level: Seven years of experience with progressively
greater responsibilities in the field of epidemiology and communicable
disease surveillance, including program organization, management,
supervision and training.
Experience at international level: Two years of participation in technical
cooperation programs and activities for the development of disease
prevention and control programs in countries of the region.
Languages: Very good knowledge of English or Spanish, with a working
knowledge of the other.

WHO/EPI announces a new Inter-Country Medical Officer Post

The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking an epidemiologist for a new
position being created in West Africa through a Canadian International
Development Agency (CIDA) contribution to WHO. The incumbent will be based
in Bamako, Mali to support polio eradication and EPI activities in West
Africa, with a specific focus on Mali, Niger and Senegal. The incumbent
will work with national Ministries of Health to plan, implement and
evaluate National Immunization Days (mass campaigns delivering oral polio
vaccine to all children under five years of age) for polio eradication. The
incumbent will also contribute to the strengthening of routine childhood
immunization
services and will be responsible for improving disease surveillance
within these same countries. Emphasis will be on implementing acute
flaccid paralysis surveillance to identify populations where wild
polio virus continues to circulate and to provide the date needed to
certify eradication.

Tenure: Short Term Professional contract (11 months, with option for
renewal up to three years).
Experience: Prior experience in international health and/or
immunization programmes is required.
Languages: Fluent spoken and written French. Fluency in English is
    desireable.

L'Organisation mondiale de la sante (OMS) creera un nouveau poste
     d'epidemiologiste en Afrique de l'Ouest, (base a Bamako, au Mali) au
titre de la contribution accordee par l'Agence canadienne de developpement
international (ACDI) pour eradiquer la polio dans le monde. Ce
professionnel de la sante appuiera les activites dans l'Afrique de l'Ouest,
notammenent en Mali, au Niger et au Senegal.  Ce professionnel de la sante
collaborera avec les ministeres de la sante pour planifier, de mettre en
oeuvre et evaluer des Journees nationales d'immunisation (distribution
massive de vaccins polio oral pour tous les enfants de moins de cinq ans).
 Il contribuera aussi a consolider les services d'immunisation systematique
et sera charge d'ameliorer le suivi. Il surveillera en particulier les cas
de paralysie flasque aigue pour determiner les populations encore touchees
par le
poliovirus sauvage et fournira les donnees necessaires pour certifier
l'eradication de la maladie.

Le candidat doit bien parler et ecrire le francais et etre a l'aise en
anglais.  Une experience des programmes internationaux de sante ou
d'immunisation est requise.  L'affectation sera sous contrat
Professionel a courte terme de onze mois, avec possibilite de
renouvellement jusqu'a trois ans.

Le poste sera ouvert aux citoyens canadiens ou aux detenteurs de
