Minimum Requirements:
Education: A university degree in a health related profession and a
Master's degree in epidemiology or public health. An M.D. or a postgraduate
degree in a health related profession would be an asset.
Experience at national level: Seven years experience in public health work
in activities utilizing the principles and concepts of epidemiology in
health situation analysis, health care delivery, disease surveillance,
professional training for teaching or research. Must have experience in the
design of sample surveys, field trials, and epidemiological research of
various diseases.
Experience at international level: Two years of participation in technical
cooperation programs and activities involving the application of
epidemiological principles and methods of disease surveillance, health care
planning, training and/or research.
Languages: Very good knowledge of English and Spanish. For more

World Health Organization - Internship Opportunity

The Sexual and Family Health/Woman and Child Health Unit seeks a
highly-motivated volunteer to produce a study report on violence against
women and its consequences on the psycho-physical and  reproductive health
of women in Europe and Central Asian Republics.
Requirements: Background in sociology/psychology/medicine; proficiency in
MS Windows applications; solid English writing and analytical skills, and
strong communication skills.
Location: WHO's Regional Office for Europe in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Term: Three months beginning in February/March 1997.

The University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign seeks a graduate student
and/or technician for an epidemiological-ecological project on the
environmental determinants of Lyme disease in the north-central U.S. The
position involves a strong GIS & remote sensing component, as well as field

Call for abstracts for the Fifth National Health Promotion Research
Conference

The Atlantic Health Promotion Research Centre and the McMaster Research
Centre for the Promotion of Women's Health will co-host the Fifth National
Health Promotion Research Conference at Dalhousie University in Halifax,
Nova Scotia, Canada from July 4-5, 1997. The theme of the conference is
"Gender and Health: From Research to Policy." They invite abstracts of
research on the following sub-themes: gender as a determinant of health,
influencing public policy, and promoting women's health. Abstracts must be

CBIE announces the first competition for the Celanese Canada
Internationalist Fellowships

The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE)is pleased to
announce the first competition for the Celanese Canada Internationalist
Fellowships on behalf of Celanese Canada Inc. and the Celanese Canada
Internationalist Council. Between 125 and 150 fellowships, each valued at
$10,000, will be awarded to outstanding university graduates who wish to
either study or to combine studies and research or work at a foreign
institution/organization. Both Canadian citizens and landed immigrants who
hold a university degree are eligible to apply. The deadline for
