WORKSHOP VISION:

The appropriate use of information and communication technology (ICT) in
the pursuit of health in development (HI4DEV).

WORKSHOP BACKGROUND:

Information and communication technologies are rapidly creating a virtual
workspace with the potential to support collaborative health activities
across time and space.

Major international agencies (CIDA, IDRC, ITU, UNESCO, USAID) have
targeted access and connectivity in regions where health regimes face a
variety of problems.

Stakeholders face the challenge of making sense' of what ICT means for how
they are organized, how they work, and how they collaborate with others.
The electronic venue changes approaches to the diffusion of knowledge.

A workshop on health informatics in international development will differ
from the norm in several key ways. It will not be a workshop in which
experts 'teach. It will consist of a set of presentations, some by
participants, combined with breakout groups.

WORKSHOP MISSION:

Assisting HI4DEV stakeholders in education, funding, policy, programming,
project implementation, research and evaluation, to refine their overview
and approaches to ICT for health in development. Assisting CUCHID members
in the development of Canada-wide strategies for HI4DEV.

THE HI4DEV ONLINE CONFERENCE:

The workshop will be assisted by a [log in to unmask] online electronic
conference which precedes and will continue beyond the literal workshop on
February 28-March 2 at York University.

To subscribe HI4DEV send a one line message to [log in to unmask]
in which the one line says: subscribe HI4DEV Your_Name.

PARTICIPANTS:

The workshop will accommodate (approximately) 30 professionals from
stakeholders facing different HI4DEV tasks. It will use two or three
facilitating professionals drawn from academic, research and HI4DEV
activities.

MAJOR COMPONENTS OF WORKSHOP:

will be made available through CUCHID. The modules will be suitable for
strategic planning workshops across a number of stakeholder settings.
