Dear colleagues and friends,

The purpose of this note is to interest you in supporting the publication of
basic medical texts for the members and students of the medical profession
in Ukraine.

Please take a minute to read this letter. It could make a great difference
to someone in Ukraine.

As you may know, the state of health and medical practice in Ukraine is a
serious concern. To illustrate, Ukraine is among the leading countries in
infant mortality, AIDS and brevity of life expectancy. The challenges to
the profession there, are tremendous.

One of the more common laments from the medical practitioners is the lack
of educational materials and texts. There is a thirst for more knowledge of
Western medicine and world standard texts for medical students.

In response to this need, the Ukrainian Physicians of Alberta have translated
and published the following STANDARD MEDICAL TEXTBOOKS in the UKRAINIAN
LANGUAGE

* DAVIDSON'S PRINCIPLES and PRACTICES of MEDICINE, (2 Vols. in
Ukrainian) Now in its 16th English Language edition. It is considered a
golden standard by medical students and doctors all over the world

* FORREST'S PRINCIPLES and PRACTICES of SURGERY is an
internationally acclaimed standard of practical approaches to surgery. (Vol
1 is available. The publication date for Vol 2 is not available at this
time.)

Most of the books, some 10,000 copies, have been distributed to Ukrainian
Medical Institute libraries across Ukraine. Some copies have been provided
to the project initiators, the Ukrainian Physicians of Alberta.

We are offering ALL THREE VOLUMES at a most reasonable cost of $100.00
taxes and shipping included. And, don't forget: THE COST IS TAX
DEDUCTABLE!

Why would you buy a Ukrainian language medical text? A few fine reasons:

* As a gift for a collegue, friend or family member studying to be or
already in the  medical profession in Ukraine;

* As a reference for North American physicians doing work in Ukraine;

* As a reference for physicians serving patients in the Ukrainian language;

* For your own collection

Let us persuade you that this is a fine, relatively inexpensive way of
reaching out and helping. Any of us would be delighted to hear from you and
your friends and colleagues. So, spread the word and contact us now,
while your mind is on the subject.

Please make the cheques payable to:UKRAINIAN PHYSICIANS of ALBERTA and mail
