Lorraine you were interested in knowing about groups working on campaigns
to raise public awareness re: social determinants of health.

I learned of a group recently: Activists For Medicare - they have a web
site at (sorry I can't put it in HTML for you to go there)

http://www.geocities.com/CapitalHill/9256

This group has done a lot of research re: the history of ontario's new
direction - (aka - restructuring), Integrated Health Care Systems and
Managed Care. They are very concerned about the privatization of health
care that will occur, as a result of the restructuring. They say the US
based companies are already here (Canadians never had a chance). They are
here because the NAFTA agreement gave room for the US to use the "unfair
subsidity" piece to break down our system (which of course will happen - if
you close what is already in demand, will not that demand find some other
way to be supplied and if that is private well good - jobs at lower pay).
Anyway, they tell me their stuff is up at their site - I know I have to be
there - sometime soon!

I suppose this is more like the Political Determinants of Health!!
