In order to perform necessary software upgrades, there will be a
a few brief interruptions in York's DNS and DHCP services between
7:30am and 8:00am on Wednesday February the 2th.

The DNS servers are used by internet applications to convert host
names to network IP addresses. DHCP servers are used to assign
IP addresses to specific computers at York.

Users who have correctly configured their computers with the
IP addresses of all three DNS servers may experience small delays
on all internet connections during the server outage.

Users who have configured their computers with only one DNS server
will likely suffer a complete outage on all internet connections.

CNS strongly suggests that York Main Campus users configure
their machines to use the following search sequence for the DNS
servers:

   130.63.168.21 (ns.nic.yorku.ca),
   130.63.237.99 (ns2.nic.yorku.ca),
   132.251.1.2 (ns2.admin.crestech.ca).

The DNS configuration for Glendon users should be:

   130.63.152.14 (ns-glendon.nic.yorku.ca),
   130.63.168.21 (ns.nic.yorku.ca),
   130.63.237.99 (ns2.nic.yorku.ca).

DHCP users (ex: campus computer labs, residence network users,
Laptops@York users), will notice a delay of several minutes
getting an IP address from the DHCP servers during this outage.
Any machines turned on before the outage and assigned IP
addresses by the DHCP servers prior to the outage will not
be affected.

Questions or concerns about these outages,
should be directed to the CNS Helpdesk in the
Steacie Science Library Building,
(voice: 736-5800, email: [log in to unmask]).
