A word or two about recent publications. Volume 36 in the IOS Press series
"Studies in Health Technology and Informatics" has just been released. To
date 43 volumes have been produced in this series.

Half a dozen of the books, including "Health, Information Society and
Developing Countries" (Vol 23: 1995), and "Health Telematics Education "
(Vol 41: 1997) are of direct relevance to information and communication
technology (ICT) for health in development. Further information on them
can be obtained from: IOS at <[log in to unmask]> or at
http://www.iospress.nl/iospress

Volume 36, just out, is titled: INTERNET, TELEMATICS AND HEALTH, edited by
M. Sosa-Iudicissa, M. Oliveri, C.A. Gamboa and J. Roberts. (May 1997,
536pp, plus CDROM) ISBN 90 5199 289 0 [Price: NLG160/UK54/DM145/US$79]

The book is a team effort involving 80 specialists from over 20 countries
in North America, Europe and Latin America. The team was coordinated by
Dr. Marcelo Sosa-Iudicissa, in Brussels, Dr. Nora Oliveri, in Buenos
Aires, Dr. Carlos A. Gamboa, in Washington, and Ms. Jean Roberts, in
England. The book and accompanying CDROM were done with the auspices of
PAHO/WHO and IMIA (The International Medical Informatics Association).

The book presents a range of informatics and telematic applications
available nowadays....examples on how people with a health concern are
using the Internet in both industrialised and developing countries. The
book contains a CDROM disk, providing readers with additional resources.
The CD-ROM will be updated on http://www.fim.org.ar/INTERHEALTH/

(Also, I <[log in to unmask]> have a small chapter in the book.)
