Obituary Notice - Ron Draper
---------------------------------------------------------------------
It is with great regret that we inform you that Ron Draper, (retired
Director General, Health Promotion Branch, National Health and Welfare),
died on Friday, August 22, 1997 at the age of 62.

Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315
McLeod Street, after 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 26th, until time of
Memorial Service in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Memorial donations to The
Ron Draper Health Promotion Award c/o Canadian Public Health Association,
400-1565 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, K1Z 8R1 would be appreciated by
the family.

PAHO - Vacancy Notice

Post Title: Programmer/Analyst; Level: P.2; Post Number: .5985;
Duty Station: Washington, D.C.; Tenure: Two years, first year
probationary; Division/Program/Office: Department of Management and
Information Support (ACS).

Salary Information: Basic Salary: $33,701 at single rate; $35,921 with
primary dependents (per annum net of taxes). Post Adjustment: $7,785 at
single rate; $8,298 with primary dependents (per annum net of taxes).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering,
mathematics, business administration or a field related to systems
analysis and/or software development.
Experience: Five years of combined experience in the application of
management and information processing techniques to the solution of
complex administrative systems problems. Experience should include
participation in the development of large and diverse information
processing projects involving other systems analysts, programmers and
interaction with other managerial staff and users. At least two years
of experience as a programmer of major administrative systems,
including involvement in the detailed design of such systems.

Skills: The incumbent must possess proven technical skills, both
in systems analysis, software development, and systems documentation;
be able to formulate sound recommendations on hardware and
software options regarding the information systems projects assigned,
and be able to translate system requirements into functional
systems.

Languages: Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with a working
knowledge of the other.

PAHO releases new publication on health care in the information age
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) recently released a new
publication and accompanying CD-ROM entitled "Internet, Telematics,
and Health". This ground-breaking review of health care in the information
age is offered at a discount to Health-Promotion list subscribers.

and youth
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Health Canada and the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) recently
released "Turning Points: The National Goals for Health Child and Youth
Development". The guide elaborates national goals and principles for
action for Canadians to achieve advances in the healthy development of
