The Quality of Life Research Unit of the Centre for Health
Promotion, University of Toronto (A WHO Collaborating Centre
in Health Promotion) has developed, validated, and published
articles about the now available instrumentation for
assessing the quality of life of persons with disabilities,
adolescents, and seniors. A generic quality of life measure
-- with great content validity -- but limited field
validation is also available. These instruments emphasize
self-perceptions of the importance and satisfaction of
individuals with their Physical, Social and Spiritual Being,
their Physical, Social, and Community Surroundings, and
their Practical, Leisure, and Growth Enhancing Activities.

The Seniors material has been translated into Italian for
use with Toronto Italian speaking seniors, and has also been
translated into Swedish.

A newsletter that overviews our approach -- its relationship
to WHO work, the conceptual model, and applications is
available as a Wordperfect 6.1 attachment or in ascii if
desired. Another series of newsletters describes the
Community Quality of Life Project that is underway in
Metropolitan Toronto.
